Artist Statement
My work explores painting as a quiet and intuitive process. Through layered oil paint and countless small dots created with acrylic markers, I build surfaces that evolve slowly over time. The work invites a sense of stillness, where rhythm and perception can unfold naturally.
Biography
Nanna Tamara is a contemporary painter whose works are created with oil and acrylic marker on canvas, exploring poetic imagery and inner experience.
Nanna Tamara began her artistic journey in the late 1990s, creating illustrations ranging from children’s communion book covers to visual narratives for the storybook Dongeng di Ambang Malam. Her early explorations moved fluidly between illustration, handcrafted design objects, and ink-on-paper works—each reflecting a deep sensitivity toward storytelling and detail.
In 2007, she shifted her focus toward painting, initially working within a realistic approach before gradually embracing contemporary visual language through years of practice, exhibitions, and independent exploration.
Her works often inhabit a delicate space between imagination and memory—where vivid colors, organic forms, and symbolic figures coexist in quiet dialogue. Through painting and illustration, she constructs intimate worlds that invite viewers to pause, reflect, and rediscover wonder.
Her works have been reviewed by Indonesian art historian Dr. Mikke Susanto (2020), who described them as “simple yet powerful.”
