The Space Between Marks

Every painting is not only defined by what is present, but also by what is left untouched.

Between each mark, there is space. These spaces allow the painting to breathe, creating moments of pause within the visual field.

In my work, the small dots and layered surfaces form a quiet rhythm. Yet, it is often the empty areas that give meaning to these marks. Without space, there is no movement. Without silence, there is no depth.

This balance between presence and absence shapes the overall atmosphere of the painting.

Rather than filling the entire surface, I allow certain areas to remain open. These spaces hold a quiet

tension — an invitation for the viewer to slow down and observe more closely.

In many ways, the space between marks is where the painting truly begins to speak.
